Bryant University
Communications Complex

When
Bryant University asked HB Communications, Inc.
to integrate television production into their
Communications Complex, there were many
challenges to consider.
The Communications Complex, (formally known as
the Koffler Center) is
Bryant's highly advanced computer center, with
more than 200 computer workstations.
Mainly, the University wanted a state-of-the-art
facility with professional broadcast quality
equipment that would be flexible enough to
accommodate different work flows.
It also had to simulate what would be found in a
true TV studio industry environment, using
technology that would accommodate future
expansion. One directive from the University
was
that the system incorporated the use of
digital technology as much as possible.
HB’s task for the project was to supply and
install all AV production equipment, control
room consoles and a monitor wall. HB also
supplied three non-linear editing systems to
integrate with the common LAN share server. The
goal to accomplish this level of functionality
was achieved while maintaining a high-tech
look.
Bryant also wanted the ability to incorporate HD
TV. With the rising popularity of high
definition television, it was a huge
consideration to make provisions for future
compatibility with HD while maintaining
budgetary concerns.
Today, the
Communications Complex's
new television
studio is a state-of-the-art communication
technology center. The 3,000 square foot
television studio boasts a control room, three
video editing rooms, and a green room where
guests can relax before a program.
The Communications Complex also houses Bryant’s
student-run radio station WJMF, which allows
ample opportunity for true multi-media
production, where students can produce shows
that rival the capabilities of local TV and
radio stations.
With the help of HB Communications, the Bryant
University Communications Complex extends
well beyond one building; integrating an
academic mindset with advanced AV communication
technology.
