As we begin 2006, HB Communications, Inc. is pleased to announce our 60th Year Anniversary of doing business!  Looking back on the decades we have seen exciting changes and have grown with the industry.

From the early days of filmstrip and 16 mm projectors to today's fast growing digital age of Videoconferencing and High Definition video, HB has been a leader in advanced AV system integration.

And speaking of advanced AV integration, this issue's spotlight is on Tandberg as Videoconferencing Company of the Year and PolyVision for their Thunder Enterprise Collaboration System.

Tandberg Chosen Videoconferencing Company of the Year

January 2006 - TANDBERG based in Lysaker, Oslo, Norway was named Videoconferencing Company of the Year by Videoconferencing Insight Newsletter for 2005, because the company is the leader in videoconferencing technology innovation.

In naming TANDBERG as Videoconferencing Company of the Year 2005, the newsletter listed the major accomplishments that the company made last year, including:

  • February: Introduced its Expressway(TM) software that, for the first time, creates a secure path for IP video calls through network firewalls. The International Telecommunications Union in September adopted two new standards for NAT - Firewall traversal based on Expressway.

  • March: Enhanced its carrier-grade MPS MCU to carry up to 128 concurrent video calls, whether IPV.35 or ISDN sessions.

  • May: Extended its impressive range to 20 MXP endpoints with the new 1000, 150 and Tactical MXP models, and also recognized that High Definition is useful for high bandwidth (4-6 Mbit/s) and high Quality of Service applications within an enterprise LAN, such as telemedicine and detailed manufacturing uses. TANDBERG said it will deliver an end-to-end High Definition solution in the first quarter of 2006 with customer demonstrations in late 2005.

  • July: Announced a new offering that integrates with Microsoft Office Communicator, allowing users of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and Communicator to launch TANDBERG video calls using the Communicator interface, and also acquired Ivigo, a division of TNO, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, which provides scalable solutions for visual communication between 3G mobile users.

  • October: Acquired Ectus Ltd., a New Zealand-based company that develops streaming and archiving technology, allowing video users to record a video call at the same time as a multimedia presentation.

The quality of TANDBERG’s products, their ease of use, the company’s dedication to training and developing make TANDBERG Videoconferencing Company of the Year for the sixth year running!

SPOTLIGHT
Thunder™ Enterprise Collaboration System by PolyVision

PolyVision’s ground-breaking Thunder System redefines the collaborative process, providing the essential environment and tools to work or learn together,
regardless of physical location.

•Thunder is used in a way similar to a flip chart, with participants jotting notes and drawings onto a “page” with an electronic pen or finger.

• Multiple pages are “posted” and projected onto the wall in high resolution, allowing all of the information to remain visible to all participants.

• With the touch of an icon, participants from other meetings, classrooms, or even other countries can join another Thunder meeting, see all of their posted information and exchange data, and share ideas – regardless of physical location.

• Each page created in the meeting is saved on the system with auto-numbering, and can be displayed, edited, retrieved, printed, or emailed; allowing users to leave the meeting knowing their information has been captured.

• Thunder enables real-time display of content from any user’s personal laptop, allowing participants to join from any location.

• The Thunder system also features instant scanning, real-time video, and One-Click Publishing™ for simple, immediate distribution of materials.
