Northeast Utilities - Berlin, Connecticut
Northeast Utilities - CT Light & Power division, in Berlin, Connecticut, recently installed a new System Operations Center (SOC). This new addition is part of CL&P's effort to effectively manage the company's assets and enhance safety and service reliability to its 1.2 million customers. The operation center is comprised of three separate rooms: the Main Control Room, a Simulator Room (for training) and a Conference Room.
There are 3 video walls in the Main Control Room, each consisting of 8 displays, for a total of 24 screens. The screens are controlled by the new Jupiter Software System, which enabled custom configuration of the clients' hardware. The supervisor's console has a Crestron TPS-5000 touch panel, which allows for complete control of the systems individual components.
The Simulator Room offers extensive training capabilities on equipment that duplicates functionality. This room has two Christie Digital DS-30 ceiling-mounted projectors imaging onto a single Da-Lite wall-mounted screen.
The Conference Room overlooks the control center, offering a unique look into the workings of the SOC. There's a single Pioneer 50-inch wall-mounted plasma display, which includes an Aurora Multimedia cable TV tuner card. Additionally, the conference room table has a flush-mounted Extron pop up interface, which allows personnel to conveniently plug-in their laptops for meetings and conferences.

Dimension Data - Framingham, Massachusetts
Dimension Data is a rapidly expanding global connectivity and integration services group. When they needed a monitoring system for their extensive network of over 160 clients, they looked to HB Communications for a solution.
Dimension Data is a 24/7 Network Operation Center that features 3 rear projections screens powered by Sony VPL-PX31, 2800 lumen LCD projectors. The projectors are mounted on Stewart Rear Projection mirror stands and are equipped with VPLL-FM31 short throw lenses.
The heart of the system is a Christie Digital System ENT-3000 network processor which allows applications running on the network to be displayed on each individual screen. In addition, the processor allows any one image to be stretched and sized across all screens, producing an almost seamless image.
Video is also introduced into the system using an Extron video matrix switcher. The switching, routing, audio and display functions are controlled by a Crestron control system with a 10" color touch panel.
Dimension Data's 24/7 operational needs led them to HB Communication's because of their reputation for supporting many mission-critical operation centers throughout the Northeast.
